Olympieda 2009
Like every year, we prepared the Olympieda project – the education enterprise produced by MadaTech – The Israel National Museum of Science in Haifa. 8th and 9th grade students from all over the country were invited to take part in Olympieda. The competition’s goals, fitted to those of the museum, are to bring teen agers closer to science and technology, to encourage them to get involved in these subjects and to locate and nurture the excelling and talented among them.
The 2009 Olympieda addressed the human brain and nervous system.
The Olympieda has four stages:
First stage: first sorting test, in general knowledge in different scientific subjects.
The test doesn’t require preparation or payment. The test took place on February 5th, 2009 at schools and testing centers.
Second stage: the second sorting test delt with the brain and nervous system. The test was based on self-studying the subject from internet chapters that students who passed the first test successfully received. (Participation fee: 50 NIS) The test took place in May 2009.
Third stage: summer science workshop, which took place on august – for a week long, in the MadaTech and the Technion. 30 students were chosen to participate in the workshop. Every one of the students prepared a presentation in advance and took a summarizing test. The workshop included lectures, activities in the laboratory and tours in research facilities all over the country.
Fourth stage: a fun quiz with participation of the media.
The Olympieda is held with the support of the ministry of education, the ministry of science, the ministry of culture and sport, Haifa municipality and in cooperation with the Technion.
There is a 2009 Olympieda winner!
The final Olympieda quiz took place Infront of an exited audience from all over the country. The quiz was the highlight of the Olympieda project, one of the main education activities in MadaTech, with is held over the course of a year.
The quiz winner is Itamar Levin, 10th grade student at Rabin high school in Mazkeret Batya. He beat seven competitors through three stages of the competition, after all participants expressed their knowledge about the nervous system and the brain.
Itamar won full studying scholarship for his first year as a Technion student.

Ms. Rivi Lakritz - The Informal Education inspector and Ministry of Education "Eshkol Pais” supervisor, Liana Berman and Achinoam Chason - Israel Electric Corporation representatives, Olympieda partisipants’ class mates, family members and other guests.
Quiz judges: Prof. Ariel Miller – Head of multiple sclerosis and brain research center at Carmel Hospital and the Technion, Haifa.
Dr. Alon Sinai – researcher at the neurosurgical and neurological departments at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Amira Shahla – M.A clinical and educational psychology student at Haifa University.
All the final participants won prize money.
2nd place – Tomer Kushnir from Mekif A in Be’er Sheva, won a partial scholarship (three quarters).
3rd place – Hagar Dadon from Reali School in Haifa, won half a scholarship.
4th place – Yonatan Richter from AMIT Yeshiva in Kfar Batia, won a quarter of a scholarship.
