The President Visits MadaTech

President Shimon Peres and Prof. Dan Sechtman visited MadaTech
Israel’s President Shimon Peres was invited to visit MadaTech by Dr. Ronen Mir, MadaTech’s CEO and Prof. Dan Shechtman, Novel prize winner and Academic Committee chairman of the national museum of science, technology & space.
The president met students at MadaTech’s education laboratory and executed the chemistry garden experiment with the guidance of Prof. Dan Shechtman. The experiment shows how to grow crystals in a glass using liquid. This experiment was held by Ilan Ramon in space and was reconstructed recently in “Researchers Night” 2011 at education institutes, science centers and museums across the country, and was also included in the Guinness Book of Records.
The president mentioned that MadaTech awakens students’ passion to wisdom and when he asked what the students would like to do when they grow up, they answered: “To visit Sweden, in the steps of Prof. Shechtman”.

After the experiment the president visited the Science Park, which was inaugurated recently, and was impressed by the verity of interactive exhibits presented in the different yards which carry the names of the greatest scientists in history: Leonardo Da Vinci, Archimedes, Newton, Daniel Bernoulli and Pythagoras.
The children of Haifa and MadaTech’s instructors demonstrated the innovative exhibits which demonstrate natural phenomena through games and experience.
“Give me a fulcrum and I shall move the world” said Archimedes, and that is what some of the children managed to do, when they easily lifted the president and prof. Shechtman, with the help of the world shaped Archimedes crane.

After visiting the science park, the president visited the “Green Energy” exhibition, where he received explanations about processes that occur while converting energy from its original source to the electric energy produced by a generator. The president walked around the exhibition and got to know its interactive exhibitions which demonstrate the work of a modern and economical power station and how energy is produced from nonperishable sources in an environment friendly manner.
